I am debating whether I should start doing bikram yoga a couple of times a week because I have heard that is a marvelous tool for weight loss. Is this true or should I stick to something more traditional?
its definantly very good for your health, but i burns off mainly your water weight
Does Bikram Yoga help you lose weight?

It’s a great addition to any workout plan, but alone it won’t give you much results because you do not get your heart rate up high enough.
But the balance work and the stretching are very beneficial, and they will both assist you in losing fat during your workouts.

IMO you should stick with what you like, because Bikram is no better than other Power Yoga for losing weight; plus, it can be contraindicated due to the extreme heat. In most cases there are zealots for all types of yoga, but it’s a very personal decision. Try them all and see which one strikes a cord with you!

Bikram Yoga can help you lose weight. However, from what I have seen, the people who have lost the most weight, are those who have a practiced 3 plus times a week. I work at a Bikram Yoga studio and I have seen many people lose lots of weight, but as with any exercise, you have to be consistent. I disagree with the one poster who said it is only water weight and the other poster who said Bikram Yoga doesn’t get your heart rate up. That is simply not true. Your heart rate goes up big time. And the inches I have lost, and seen others lose, are not just water weight. I took the part time job at the studio, working the desk, b/c I have experienced the benefits of the yoga (weight loss, sleep better and over all toning). Like I said, you have to be consistent about going, and that’s with any exercise. 3 + times a week. Of course, drink lots of water and be mindful of what you eat. Don’t deprive yourself but maybe have 1 cheat day a week, and be careful the other days. Good luck to you.
